Dad who was told inoperable cancer has spread desperate for last Disney trip with family

A dad who has been given the devastating news that his cancer has spread to his brain says he would love to take his family on a Disney cruise.

John Holmes, who has an inoperable oesophageal tumour, worked as a floor layer before he was diagnosed with cancer in November last year and he now wants to create lasting memories with his wife, six children and eight grandchildren.

The 59-year-old is a big Disney fan and would love to take his family on a Disney Cruise, reports Plymouth Live.

His other hope would be to hire a big house with a swimming pool, to spend a weekend with his wife, Sarah, and their big family.

John, who lives in Southway, is currently spending time in Newcastle with his dad, brother and sisters and would also like to be able to take his family of 23 there, as well as get to watch Newcastle United.

Nicola McCormick, a colleague who works with Sarah in the intensive care unit at Derriford Hospital, has now set up a fundraiser to help John’s dreams come true.

So far, £3,605 has been raised for John.

Nicola explained that John has “been so strong and fought so bravely”.

She wrote: “At the end of last year my very best friend Sarah and her husband John were told the devastating news that he had stage 4 inoperable oesophageal cancer.

“He has been so strong and fought so bravely but has now been dealt the further news that it has spread to his brain.

“John has obviously been unable to work for several months and Sarah who is an amazing intensive care nurse has taken time out to be with him.

“To give him, Sarah and their beautiful family the opportunity to make as many happy memories as possible I have started this page.

“Any donation however small would be so appreciated.”
